The Art At Chili Verde

In the 1960s, some of the communities of the Sierra Oriental went through a severe economic crisis, triggered by a terrible drought that caused poor and unfruitful harvests. The situation was devastating that its inhabitants felt the need to create new economic alternatives. Therefore, women and ancestral embroiders, would market their native and homemade blouses. However, this initiative did not find much interest at the beginning because the buyers did not want to pay the real price for the products.

Artisans of the Mexican Republic have earned international prestige for the colorful scenes of rural life that embody in their embroidery with colored threads decorating large spaces in luxurious hotels and covering tables at special occasions of their suppliers. They are constant in their design with drawings of chickens, rabbits, horses or dogs set with frets that much resemble poinsettia petals and utilizing bright colors: yellow, red , green and blue. They also make special pieces with contrast backgrounds and embroideries worthy of being framed or mounted on elegant racks to give color to walls where the solemnity breaks.
